I Believe, do you?...

I was a sophomore in high school when I first heard the song "I Believe" by Blessid Union of Souls. It's a song about love, race, perseverance and hope. I remember it was somewhat controversial because it had the "N" word in it. But it was used in the most appropriate way I think it could be, to make a point. All these feelings and attitudes are still present and reflecting in our world today. These are things I am currently talking to my middle school students about. In the end I do believe the virtues of love, kindness, acceptance, humility, etc. - are what is going to change this world. I believe, that love is the answer. Do you?

We Will Overcome

This song was written in response to both the tornado and the derecho that affected the community of Marshalltown. It has felt like we have been in this mode of "rebuilding" for years- along with the pandemic. This song is an encouragement to stay strong and work together and that in the end we will persevere. We Will Overcome!

I Need A Friend

I Need a Friend is a song about my thoughts on how Jesus may have felt as He prepared to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. I can't imagine the isolation He must have felt knowing what He must do, and having no one who could fully understand Him.
